Endorphins are an amazing part of our body’s biochemical system. They are chemicals produced by our body to relieve stress and pain. Sometimes called the happiness hormones, they work similar to morphine but all natural without addiction. They relieve pain and can produce a feeling of euphoria. When you exercise your body releases endorphins. So, how can we use endorphins to help us feel less stress and get a positive boost in our mood while sheltering in?

Regular Exercise

Regular exercise has been proven to:

  • Reduce stress

  • Ward off anxiety and feelings of depression

  • Boost self-esteem

  • Improve sleep

We also know that exercise has added health benefits:

  • Strengthens your heart

  • Increases energy levels

  • Lowers blood pressure

  • Improves muscle tone and strength

  • Strengthens and builds bones

  • Helps reduce body fat

  • Makes you look fit and healthy

Moderate exercise produces endorphins.

What are some ways to exercise while stuck at home?

When you are at home alone or with energetic children there are many things you can do to feel happier and live healthier. Moderate exercise such as going for a walk, bike ride, playing tag, jogging, yard work, games in the yard, basketball, Frisbee are just a few things you can do to get that endorphin boost. Doing these activities as a family will release your children’s pent up energy and improve your energy levels, reduce anxiety and stress. Everyone will feel better with the added benefit of fun family bonding.

Not going to the gym? What about a work out at home with an athletic trainer

Working out at home is the new normal since gyms are closed. You can continue to train at home with some things you have around the house and a few inexpensive items like bands. There is a shortage of home gym equipment due to Covid19 but you don’t need a lot to keep in shape. Another popular option is athletic training at home through Skype. We offer athletic training with a professional athletic trainer.

Take some time to schedule play and exercise into your daily routine and be amazed at how much better you will feel.
